Day 28: Moosomin to Brandon, MB

July 7th
Distance: 140km

This morning we got up early and headed to the Red Barn Restaurant for breakfast, which was a welcome break from oatmeal! After a large breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, toast, bacon, etc., we headed into Manitoba. With tail winds at our back, we were excited to get on the road! After a few photo ops at the border, we kept going.

A hot afternoon with high humidity and little shade was quite challenging on everyone. Stopping for a snack break in the shade in Alexander, a town of 200, we were again met with kindness as strangers opened their doors to give us some much needed water.

In Alexander, we also met new cycling friends, Alex and Julian, who are also touring the country!

As we rode into Brandon, we were caught in a terrible thunderstorm. The wind was so strong it was pushing the rain sideways. There was lots of hail and rain, and even thunder and lightening right over our heads. We ended up taking refuge in an internet cafe until the storm abated a little.

This evening, we were able to stay with relatives of Jennica's, Jack and Dona McLeod. We were really appreciative of showers, warm dinner and a wonderful place to stay indoors!
