Day 3: Mule Deer Campground, Manning Park to Bromley Rock, Princeton
Km's Today: 80km
Distance to date: 315km
Highlights:
Woke up to our very first day of climbing fully loaded (panniers and trailers).
We Climbed up Sunday Pass to an elevation of approximately 1280 km then after a short break began what we expected to be a long decent. So we bundled up (some of us with touques) only to find another hill and the sun peaking through the clouds, after a short 8% grade decent. After over-heating as we climbed the hill the crew stopped to delayer (touques, rain coats) then we began the real decent.
So Alisha and Klara took off at the front of the pack and as everyone knows they love to see how fast they can decend. Pannier bags tend to complicate this as they add another element of instability but the girls felt they could mannaged their bikes well at speeds of 45km/hr. Add on a narrow shoulder with cracks and loose rubble and this equals well three stiches and a tour of Princton Hospital. Alisha went down pretty hard so we flagged down a van who transported Alisha and her bike to the hospital.
The crew followed and caught up to find alisha a little shaken but doing well. We tracked down a $20 helmet (CSA approved and that was all we could find).
So our next task is to find a decent helmet, and fix Alisha's bike so we can get her to the bike shop in Osooyos.
Special thanks to:
Stephanie and Don Robinson - for transporting Alisha to the hospital
Dorothy and Dr. G -at Princton General.
Quote of the Day:
Klara:" Shaken but not Stirred"
-Alisha laughed pretty hard when I mentioned this to her.
Bike Maintenace:
Jennica lubing her chain while the crew take turns working on Alisha's bike.
